Abstract:

This module communicates the fundamentals of IT-driven innovations in eHealth. The key objective is to provide an understanding for the possibilities of IT-driven innovations in international healthcare markets. The course introduces the cornerstones of healthcare markets (history, financial models, regulation, stakeholder) as a fundamental basis for developing appropriate areas for improvement. Furthermore, IT-trends including relevant constraints will be presented that impact further developments in different parts of the healthcare sector (e.g. hospitals, payors, GPs, pharmacies, etc.) Specific focus is being put on theoretical models of technology resistance and practical impact when introducing IT-innovation with country-wide relevance in healthcare sectors.

The students will:
  • understand the specifics of different healthcare systems and the impact on introducing innovation and reforms
  • be aware of current trends & directions with respect to IT / innovation in healthcare markets for different stakeholders and on a national level
  • be able to discuss and apply models for user resistance and their effect on national eHealth programs
  • obtain an understanding on privacy and security issues within eHealth implementation programs
  • be able to apply the expertise with a team of students to a specific problem
