Course Objectives:

This is an introductory seminar on information systems (IS) research, focusing on managerial/behavioral/organizational issues in the field. The goals of this seminar are as follows:
- Help you to gain an understanding of what constitutes research (IS research in particular)
- Familiarize you with some of the issues being faced by the IS research discipline
- Expose you to past and current research streams in the IS field
- Provide you with an in-depth knowledge of the primary theoretical perspectives within the IS discipline.
- Help you to develop the skills to critically read and evaluate IS literature
- Familiarize you with some of the work of a diverse set of researchers in the IS field

- What is IS Research? What is Theory? Understanding paradigms and the IS discipline
- Developing Theory and Conducting Research in MIS- Issues related to diversity, rigor, and relevance, and the IS Core
- Design Research
- Individual level Theories in IS- I (Communication-related)

- IT at the Organizational Level (Adoption and Outsourcing)
