This is a course in applied micro economics which concentrates on the core issues of health economics. The first part deals with health care financing with a focus on health insurance and the consequences of asymmetric information, that is, adverse selection and moral hazard. We will also touch upon compulsory insurance, risk selection and its regulation. In the second part we study how the monies raised should be spent optimally. The course centers around optimal provider payment and incentives.
