When thinking about an exchange semester abroad, there are some fundamental questions that need to be addressed beforehand. Here are some frequently asked questions that might help you with your decision:

  • What kind of options do I have to study abroad?
    There is a broad variety of possibilities to participate in an exchange program while being in college. Through the ERASMUS-Program, you have the option to choose  from a wide range of universities throughout Europe. The particular exchange programs offered by the faculty enable you to do study in France, the United States as well as Australia. Of course, there is also the possibility to choose a university on your own. You may contact Ms. Julia Schneider at the International Office to receive further assistance with issues concerning financing, visa and other issues.

  • Is there an official information session where I can learn more about the various programs?
    Yes, there will be an official information session taking place at the beginning of each fall term. You will have the opportunity to learn more about your options of doing an exchange year. You will also be able to address questions and meet some representatives of the International Office. The next information session will be announced in the calendar.

  • Are there any possibilities to receive financial aid?
    There is a broad variety of possibilities to apply for financial aid. This includes a number of merit-based scholarships which are offered through the exchange programs of the faculty. Besides student exchange loans (Auslands-BaföG), there is also a great number of institutions and associations which award scholarships.   • When will the deadline be for the particular exchange programs?
    You can find out about the different deadlines in our exchange program calendar. Please also go to the particular program websites for further information.

  • Will I be able to transfer credits from my foreign university to my German record?
    Yes, you usually will be able to transfer credits. BUT you will need to get in touch with your tutoring supervisor before your exchange. He will assist you with your course selection and tell you if you will be able to receive credit points for your selected courses in the particular clusters.
